Dry risers are used by the fire brigade to get vital water supply to hard to reach parts of buildings. Generally used in high rise buildings, the fire brigade can insert a water supply into the dry riser inlet & by using a network of vertical pipes & valves; they can connect onto another floor and extinguish fires easily
Dry riser systems must be serviced six monthly under BS9990:2015. This will consist of a major service & a minor visual inspection
Fire Hydrants are water supply points, generally from the mains supply. They allow the fire brigade to attach equipment to access rapid & accessible water to allow them to tackle fires quickly & effectively. Fire Hydrants must be unincumbered by vehicles & plant and must be serviced regularly
